When Rose chose Thanksgiving weekend as the weekend to take their extended family pictures, we couldn’t have guessed how fabulous the day was going to be! Because one of her sons was traveling in from Colorado for the holiday weekend, we knew we might be looking at some cold weather for their session. Chilly temperatures can be a trick when photographing young children. But as it would turn out, the afternoon was gorgeous–both in temperature and in color! The family showed up with a wardrobe that fit right in to the autumn backdrop at Sylvan Springs Park, and all of it would soon compliment the colors of her décor at home. Of course, the kids were darling (as you’ll see below)–and they pulled off a fun outfit change after the family pictures were done. New Christmas pajamas called for a quick change in the season, so we had a little fun with the wardrobe switch and then worked some magic in time for Christmas cards!
I knew I was going to love photographing this family the minute I spoke with Rose on the phone, and that certainly was the case. Extended family pictures can often seem intimidating at the start–coordinating schedules and wardrobes for several people feels overwhelming. Because of that, I love to communicate with families before I photograph their session. That way, I can answer questions and help them land in the place where we both want to be–beautiful portraits that not only capture their loved ones, but that also compliment their home.
