As I would walk in the door coming back home from each of my mini-sessions just before Christmas, my husband would ask me how it went.
“I’m pretty sure we’d be friends,” I would respond. I hadn’t known any of these families prior to their session, but I left each and every one thinking, “What a sweet family!”
Getting updated portraits in time for Christmas cards and Christmas gifts has always been a thing in my family. I remember my mom getting us dressed up and having our very good friends come over and take our pictures in time for Christmas letters to go out. My husband and I do the same with our kids, and we actually put all the Christmas pictures we receive from others on display in our dining room to enjoy the entire year. So of course I absolutely love that I get to be a part of the process for other families. What a beautiful time to pause and document the ages and stages of your family to enjoy both now and years from now. Even after the leaves had fallen, we found some beautiful locations and light at Faust Park or Forest Park for our sessions.
One of my favorite stories coming from these sessions was a group of adult children wanting to surprise their mom before Christmas, as she had been asking for awhile for an updated portrait of her kids. They were fabulous, and we even set up a fun set of images with everyone “checked-out” on their phones, as this was a running joke in their family. When they came in to choose their favorites, they brought their mom with them for the surprise, and it was every bit worth the effort they put in!
As far as favorites, it is always hard for me to choose–especially when I am putting so many sessions into one blog post! But I did my best, you’ll have to scroll on down to see how I did…
