What do you do when your sweet friend has another son who is a senior in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota? Well, you hop on a plane and go take his senior pictures, of course! I just want to gush on all the years I’ve spent watching Jackson grow up, and I’m tempted to go find that picture of me holding him the day he was born…or the picture of him “visiting” the hospital a few months later the day my daughter was born. But I won’t. Let’s just say it has been quite fun–and quite an adventure–in the years since! Jackson is a young man of few words and many talents, and Rapid City’s incredible Art Alley seemed like the perfect place to begin his session. Talk about an incredible scene! So much variety and so many possibilities! We took a full gallery in itself in just a short walk down the alley.
After we wrapped things up in downtown Rapid City, we headed home for the night to rest up for his extended family coming in the next day. (I can’t wait to post that session soon!) Then we headed out again a couple of nights later to grab a few more spots near Hill City. Our families like to exaggerate a story about me hopping out of a moving vehicle to photograph a bridge while I was there a couple of years ago, and that spot was one of the locations Jackson chose for his session. But no worries, we made sure the car was properly parked first before anyone got out this time, and it was a blast pulling off the side of the road in random spots whenever we saw something interesting. Jackson finished off the night climbing some “little” rocks 😉 –much to his mother’s dismay–and you might feel like you’re playing WHERE’S WALDO when you see that picture below.
To top off his session, we took some time while our families were vacationing in Iowa to capture a few classic headshots as well as silhouettes of Jackson fishing. All in all, you might say that his final gallery is rather large, and I’m not the least bit sorry about it! Scroll on down to see some of my favorites of this fabulous Black Hills senior…
