Ahhhhhh, fall is on the horizon and there’s nothing quite like having a fall family session to capture the essence of your family against the stunning backdrop of autumn’s INCREDIBLE colors. As a mama myself, I am an absolute sucker for beautiful, storytelling images of family. And as a brand-new grandmother this year, I am in awe of how quickly my children are growing up and how their moments of childhood have become the sweetest wisps of memories. I am always over the moon to capture family love in all of its personalities, dynamics, and craziness.
It is SO beautiful.
And it goes by SO FAST!!
But I have found the secret sauce of pausing time happens with a camera and with intention. And fall couldn’t be a more beautiful season to set aside an hour or so to come spend time with me, my camera, and your loved ones. The results are always stunning, I promise.
I know, I know…pulling off a family session can feel stressful from the start. Coordinating schedules, pulling together outfits, those extra pounds you may have been hoping to shred…I get it. Believe me, I have been in that place and that is why I’m committed to holding your hand from the very beginning. As a family photographer, I know PLENTY of tips and tricks to ALL things that makes a session beautiful, and I’m not about to make you navigate it alone. I help with wardrobe, I know what works best for lighting and locations, I gently guide you through your session so expressions are authentic and real and beautiful. I know angles and posing and fun, you don’t have to worry about a thing. Your only job is to show up and love on your people. My job is the rest.
I am a huge fan of a full family session. This gives us time. Time for you all to warm up and realize it’s actually not that bad in front of the camera. Time for your kids to get to know me. Time for connection. Time for fun.
Do you have some crazy toddlers? I got you. Teenagers who would rather do anything else than a family photo session? Trust me.
With these sessions, I go after what many call storytelling pictures. These captures showcase who you really are and the connections you have with each other. It gives time for the silliness you don’t want to forget, the whisps of hair blowing in the wind, the little expressions they might one day outgrow, the way your baby fits in your arms, or the way your teenager cracks a grin when Dad tells a bad joke. It gives time to pull away with your spouse or partner to grab a few images of just the two of you. It’s a chance to breathe in the beauty of nature and enjoy your family.
We have time for the epic pullback captures that look like a piece of art…
We have time for the natural, intimate moments…
We have time for the laughter…
We have time to tell a story.
And whatever your family’s particular dynamic this season in time, I’m going to show you how beautiful it is.
And YES! You will have those stunning traditional portraits where everyone is looking at the camera…the one that often becomes the Christmas card and the picture Grandma wants to hang on her wall.
And do you know what? Almost everyone will leave the session saying that it was actually fun. The session in itself will be a new family memory.
In addition to all of this, I make time for something else. A photography teacher several years back talked about the importance of each child having a picture of them and each parent. One they can pull out on hard days, or one day in the face of loss to remember how it felt to be loved by you. That really struck a nerve. I am a mom of seven. I know how precious those pictures are to me with each of my children, and I know how precious those pictures are of me with each of my parents…and each of my grandparents for that matter. So I make space for this in my family sessions. It’s worth the time and effort, and those pictures always become more priceless with time.
In every family session and in every season, I am out to capture two things–connection and artistic beauty. I believe the most beautiful artwork hanging in your home should be that of your family. Do you know research has shown children seeing tangible pictures on their walls at home give them a sense of belonging? It is grounding to live in a space that visually speaks to each soul living there that they are loved and treasured above all else. It is a reminder to everyone on hard days that beauty does exist. So we take the time to let you be you, and your kids be your kids. I don’t want the forced “Say cheese!” to be the feel of our time together. We relax and let your family be your family…in this season, in this space.
I have put in the time to find beautiful landscapes of nature with just the right direction of light to set the scene. A fall family session in all its beauty gives us SO MANY stunning possibilities. You will have a final gallery full of plenty of options that are strong contenders for beautiful canvases or framed prints hanging in your home. You should be able to “feel” those images, as you hear the laughter and sense the love.
So consider pausing time this season, and join me for a fall family session. I will walk with you each step of the way, and you will be so glad you did, I promise.
