We couldn’t have had a more beautiful afternoon or a more beautiful extended family session at Creve Coeur Lake right between Christmas and New Year’s! I had a friend put a bug in my ear that Dan and Pat were going to have ALL of their children and grandchildren home for Christmas. For this family, that is an extra big deal considering part of their family was coming all the way in from Spain. While I’m not one to usually approach a family suggesting I do a family session, I DID make an exception in this case. Of course I gave them an out in case they already had other plans or another photographer, but I was thrilled when Pat said she was thinking about talking to me anyway. There are times when an updated portrait is in order, and this was certainly one of those times!
I do have to say, this family knows how to pull out all the stops. It is awkward being in front of a camera lens sometimes, and there was one particular soul who just wasn’t thrilled about me putting the camera in her face. When I pulled this child away for an individual shot, I got the best smile of the afternoon! So I looked over my shoulder to see what she was smiling about, and there they were–the WHOLE family was turned around shaking their backside to get a reaction. Now that is family teamwork if I ever saw it! And absolutely worth the image that resulted!
I know I have said this before, but I have to say it again. Winter light is beautiful. Family sessions during winter time aren’t exactly what most people think about when planning for family pictures. But because it is often during the holiday’s that extended families get together, don’t let that stop you from considering a winter session. With the right location, winter is beautiful. This family certainly looks gorgeous in winter!
And what did they pick to go above their mantle and on their wall? It was hard choosing! But as I told Pat, each and every time she looks up at the two larger portraits they did choose, she will break into a smile. I’ll let you take a guess which ones they picked from scrolling through our favorites…
