I am quite sure I’m still floating on a cloud over Chloe and Edin’s snowy spring engagement session at Forest Park. It was nothing short of a fairytale, despite it being a bit of a chilly fairytale. I had the joy of photographing Edin proposing to Chloe just before Christmas at the Chase Park Plaza, and I was thrilled when they asked if I would photograph their wedding. These two are currently serving in the Air Force in North Dakota, and so the whole making it back to St. Louis for an engagement session separate from returning for their wedding was out of the question. We decided to squeeze in their engagement session whenever it worked, and that happened to be three days before their big day.
The plan was this: They get to town on the Sunday before their Friday wedding. Chloe has a trial run of hair and makeup on Tuesday. Throw in a bridal shower Tuesday evening, and that leaves us 4pm on Tuesday to pull out an engagement session before they have to quickly head out to the shower. No problem, I think. It’s spring, the trees are blooming–it will be beautiful. Chloe is a photographer herself, so I know she’ll practically be assisting me in pulling off her own engagement pictures.
But snow. Yes, that white fluffy stuff decided to follow them from North Dakota and show up on Tuesday afternoon. As I was getting ready to leave for the session, the snow decided to turn into rain. Make that ugly rain. And I began praying…and maybe asked my mom and a friend or two to also pray about the weather. If we were going to have precipitation, could it at least go back to snow? It seemed to make sense to me, and thankfully those big ugly rain drops turned back into beautiful snow flakes. Chloe confirmed they were up for embracing whatever nature threw our way, and I figured they were coming down from Minot…surely this will feel balmy to them, right?
So they jumped out of the car and jumped right into their gorgeous session. We decided to start under the cover of the Muny for a dry beginning. Then we headed out into the crazy but beautiful scene.
And yes, I know we had to have looked crazy because my husband and oldest son happened to be driving through Forest Park (I hadn’t told my husband I had a session that afternoon) and my husband tells my son, “Hey, look! Can you believe there’s a photographer doing a session in this weather???”
To which my son says, “Dad! I think that’s mom!!!”
And of course they hop out of their vehicle and take some rather funny behind the scenes videos before I realize they are there.
But crazy or not, the entire session was stunning–and SO MUCH FUN–and I would do it again in a heartbeat! As you know, just three short days later, Chloe and Edin tied the knot. And of course the wedding was incredibly beautiful on so many levels. Yes, I will certainly have another post coming soon once their wedding day images are edited. But in the meantime, scroll down to see some favorites of their amazing engagement session where we had winter in the middle of spring…
