Ahhhh, a proposal AND an engagement session, this time for my first born and his beautiful fiancé. As you might guess, I’m just a little emotional over this one…just a little.
Daniel and Kaitlyn first bonded back in high school chemistry class and quickly discovered a mutual love for all things sharp. Swords, knives, katanas…you name it. I know, I know…at first I was like “Katana? What is a katana?” Fast forward through classes, graduation, work schedules, college, trips to Uganda, and we land just a few weeks shy of their wedding day. And honestly, while emotional, I am excited. Daniel proposed to Kaitlyn at the end of last summer, and I was honored to get to hide in the bushes at Forest Park and capture the moment. Of course, we headed out again late fall for engagement pictures at the gorgeous Lafayette Park, and were met about twenty minutes into their session with a downpour. We were supposed to go back out one more time to take a few more pictures, but that didn’t quite work out as planned. Suffice it to say I have egg on my face from that one. I still owe them a dinner out at Spaghetti Factory for my…say…little mishap. And since I may as well drag them out with the camera in each and every season, I did happen to pull off a snowfall image in our very own neighborhood.
But as we were going through pictures for their save-the-date cards, we realized we had more than enough to choose from in our time out in the rain. And that is saying a lot for these two introverts who would rather NOT spend their time in front of a camera lens. They were pretty fabulous and pulled off several gorgeous portraits in a matter of minutes. In fact, their umbrella picture in the rain qualified as a finalist in the Shoot & Share Photo Contest! Plus, Daniel prefers the rain, anyway. So it couldn’t have been more fitting.
Will I be photographing their wedding? Of course…with a team of help. And I’ve promised to put down my camera BEFORE the beautiful sunset ceremony so that I can thoroughly enjoy being mother of the groom. You all can hold me to that!
These two. They just fit. And I’m excited to watch them grow together through marriage. Be sure to scroll down to enjoy a few of our favorites below…
