When Leslie told me at the end of spring that she was hoping to have family pictures taken if her oldest would get to come home on leave over the Fourth of July, I told her that we would do whatever it took to pull it off! You couldn’t have packed more meaning into scheduling this session when we did. Not only did this airman get home from Alaska to celebrate the nation’s birthday with his family–July 4th just so happens to be his birthday, too! We had kicked around a couple of location ideas and settled in on Kirkwood Park. I arrived early to walk the park like I usually do before my sessions, and couldn’t have been more thrilled with what I found! Leslie had texted me pictures of their outfit choices earlier that day, and I do believe it couldn’t have been a more perfect match for the flowers in full bloom along the back of the pond. This family made my job super easy, which made for a beautiful gallery when it was all said and done. Of course, my daughter was tagging along as my helper, like usual. And as we were packing up to leave, Mark made sure she went home with some ice cream funds, which completely made her day!
What I love about photographing families are the different personalities that always shine through, both with the individuals in the family, as well as the family as a whole. I always go in with a plan of action, and I always come out with images you can never completely predict because each family is uniquely special. This family, of course, is no exception. Leslie just sent me a picture of their choices, now beautifully hanging in their home. And while I love posting gorgeous pictures to the internet for blog or Facebook posts, I do have to say that what means more to me is knowing these images are now stunning portraits for this family to enjoy everyday. However, for the rest of us…let me show you some of our favorites…
