When Kathy first came to visit with me about possibly scheduling an extended family session, my daughter met her at the door before I did. After welcoming her into my office, Anna ran to tell me Kathy had arrived.
“Mom! You are REALLY going to like her. She is SO kind!”
And she couldn’t have been more right.
This past fall every one of Kathy’s kids was going to be home for a family wedding. And since her family has added in numbers recently through marriages and grandchildren, it seemed like a good time to get an updated family portrait. We decided to photograph the session in their backyard, as being able to walk right out their back door would make everything easier on the two littlest ones. I drove out to their place a couple of days before the session to check the lighting and shade, and was thrilled that it was a perfect scenario for the time we were needing that morning. Everyone was beautiful and gracious, and of course the grandchildren were the stars of the morning! True to toddler-boy form, little Harry didn’t disappoint, as he had plenty of other things to do than look at my camera. He made sure I kept moving–but little does he know that his kissable cheeks and darling overalls were worth every bit of effort! And his baby cousin, Adelaide, was as adorable and as sweet as she could be!
As I type this, I think their new canvases and prints have just been hung on their walls from their extended family session. I can’t tell you how much I love it when portraits of loved ones are turned into artwork and displayed in homes. It communicates to everyone who enters their home what they value and what is beautiful to them…
Family.
